Post by MrEmanIF there are any legitimate members left and if the group owner is
listening , I volunteer to moderate this group and limit its use to on
topic discussion of home-owner association issues.
Good luck with that.
Usenet moderation is not terribly effective, and is easily defeated by
pretty much anyone with a halfway decent newsreader. This was tried over
in one of the rec.bicycles groups, and the effect was to drive the final
nail into the group's coffin.
A better approach is to get some discussions going, and get the signal-to-
noise ratio up to a decent number. That keeps the group going enough that
the spam posts can be skipped over, and readers will still find content to
keep them here. It's the only approach I've seen work.
I also suggest forwarding copies of the spam notes (with headers) to the
Knujon folks via ***@coldrain.net -- they specialize in tracking down
the spammers' web sites and domain registrars, and getting them cut off at
the knees.
