Retirement community restrictions.

We have started looking at retirement communities in the Soouthwest.

There are some nice places, but the restrictions are just a killer. At
one place we looked at it got to the point that if friends come to
visit overnight, they can't park in your driveway or on the street in
front of the house.

The nice thing about some of these places is that they mail you a list
of the restrictions with the information about the community, so that
you don't waste your time looking for a place and then find out about
the unacceptable restrictions.

It seems that the nicer communities are quite up front about everything
from the rules to the utility costs, which is great, however there are
some communities that really don't want to tell you a whole lot up
front, they want you to visit. I am not sure, but I think "visit"
translates into "high pressure sales job".

Next I think we are going to look at nothern Utah and southern Idaho.

The potential problems with HOA's or any other property that has land deed
restrictions

are to numberous to mention. Here in las vegas the demand for NON-HOA
housing is

high and you can expect to pay 25-30% more for the privilage of keeping your
constitutional

rights and decorating your house the way you like. If the hoa lifestyle is
not what your looking

for hire a attorney and have them check the deed to make shure there are no
CCR's or land use

restrictions. If your going to use a realator tell them you are not
intrested in hoa housing, it will

save you and them a lot of time. Avoid any place that won't tell you
everything you want to know

up front, they usually have something to hide. Its your money and you should
spend it on a place that

your going to be happy living in, don't let a sales person pressure you into
buying something that

doesnt feel right for you.
